Rates update hourly, sourced from the European Central Bank.
Where do these rates come from?
Exchange rates are sourced from the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates and refreshed hourly on this site. They’re intended for quick reference and general conversion — for an actual money transfer or trade, always check the rate your bank or payment provider offers, since they typically add a margin on top of the market rate.
How the currency converter works
Rates are quoted against the US dollar. To convert between any two currencies, the converter divides your amount by the rate of the currency you have and multiplies by the rate of the currency you want. For example, if 1 USD = 18 ZAR, then 50 USD = 50 × 18 = 900 ZAR.
Frequently asked questions
How often are exchange rates updated?
The European Central Bank publishes reference rates once each working day, usually around 16:00 Central European Time. This site checks for new rates every hour. On weekends and public holidays the most recent published rates are shown.
Why is my bank’s rate different?
Banks, card providers and exchange bureaus usually add a margin to the market rate, and some charge fees on top. Use this converter as a reference, then check the final amount with your provider.
